happy new year!
as i noted on my facebook: good riddance to 2008 and george w.!
2008 has been an incredibly bad year for the nation. our family ended up, boozing it up. it was all great fun. being the first family boozefest, things to note for next year:
- make sure we have enough space for parking cars on the driveway or buy overnight parking passes in advance. we had to scramble and play tetris with all of our cars so we wouldn't get ticketed for parking past 2 a.m.
- don't mix liquior; if you start with wine, stick with wine or else you'll end up in an unpleasant state. we were bad and mixed up vodka, rum, gin (yuck), wine, and beer. it was a bad choice for my uncle who passed out cold; i'm guessing he had a bad hangover this a.m..
- have plenty of food on hand to help with the drinking. we ran out of food and snacks until one of the uncles came over with two bags of chips; our savior! next year, definitely doing a costco run the day of for food and alcohol.
- make sure we don't start the drinking games when people who don't like drinking games or the thought of drinking have left. my father looked so pissed i was partaking in the fun and my mother was harrassing me about drunk drinving and getting a dui. duh, do i look like an imbecile? you don't like the merriment? you can leave.
- hold the event where they have two bathrooms. the place we had this event at had ONE bathroom so you can imagine people who needed to go very badly while the bathroom was occupied. the good thing about this place was that it's on a large lot=unlikely to bother neighbors.
- get a few buckets lined with plastic bags for puking.
- tell people to bring sleeping bags in case they become overnight guests like my aunt and uncle were.
regardless, new year eve was fun and went well! i think it's going to happen again next year.
